Dr. appt. update

SCOLDED! I am 3 lbs over and have gained 7 lbs. in 5 weeks. My doctor mentioned it more as a way to tell me to "nip it in the bud" and cease any bad habits I am forming now because the majority of my weight gain is yet to come! He was telling me this not necessarily because it is unhealthy, but more so because I would be depressed with the amount of weight I would gain if this continues. I also need to increase my exercise, which has been next to nothing, and get more supportive shoes. My feet throb in the night and it literally wakes me up. It truly feels like I have stomped nonstop on concrete for hours. So, I got insoles for my tennis shoes and may have to thwart fashion somewhat for the sake of my feet.

Other than that, my belly measurements and his heartbeat were great! One funny thing...while we were sitting in the waiting room, for the first time, the baby kicked hard enough for Tobin to see it several times. We both sat there and stared at my belly for awhile. My next appt. is in one month and that will include my Glucola test, or gestational diabetes test. In other words, a blood test...God help me not faint! One month from that will be our 2nd ultrasound and then it is every two weeks from there until June. Then, we will have an appt. every week until delivery! WOW!

NESTING UPDATE: The house is getting back to order. Tobin has painted the walls and cleaned the carpets. Nothing on the walls yet and no rocking chair. My scrapbook stuff is all in the same room, but not organized yet. He spent the afternoon putting furniture in it's new locations. At least my feet are not cold and wet anymore when I walk around the house. Wet carpets were a real pain! The pets sure didn't care for it either
! haha

  1. You know, I say don't stress over the weight thing too much. My last dr. was kind of an ass over the whole weight issue and it drove me nuts. I gained 40 lbs total and he flipped over it. I lost 27 of those 40 lbs before my 6 week check up w/ him after I had Drew. The rest of it came off pretty easy too and I just looked at it as a great motivation to get healthy. And if it makes you feel any better I'm not doing so great w/ my weight either! I did good the first 5 months but now I'm packing it on pretty quick! I'm blaming it on Mike's willingness to go get me powdered donuts at any hour! :)

  2. Allison,
Donuts! You're hilarious! That's too funny. I did decide to stop making Tobin desserts, as I don't have the will power to leave them for him. Did you lose the weight that fast with breast-feeding or working out, or neither? Maybe with the nice weather, I can walk more. Also, with the BH contractions, are they worse than normal menstrual cramps or something totally different? My menstrual cramps were hellacious due to the endometriosis, so I've been told that labor may not seem as bad since I lived with those for four freakin' years. There were points I seriously wanted to just pass out and die it hurt sooo bad.

  3. Yep, see Holly. You'll be fine. Quit stressing. Pregnant people gain weight. It's NORMAL. I gained 40 lbs. when I was pregnant as well and lost all of it plus some. Worry about it after the baby gets here.

  4. Holly,

You are fine. I do know it took me a long time to get the weight off with Sydney...but I blame me for that. I gained only 30 pounds, but I procratinated in getting it off. Once I went on Weight Watchers before I got pregnant with this one I lost 18, so you will be fine and I plan to go right back on it after this one is born even while breast-feeding.

I have only gained 17 with this one, but who knows, I have 12 weeks left. I am trying to behave...so hard sometimes.

You will do fine with labor....
it is hard, but it sounds like you have had some experience in the cramping dept. Man, that stinks.

Take care. I will blog soon. I am in the process of upgrading Sydney to a "big girl" room and revamping her room for the baby. She will be 5 in Sept.....it is time.

No time at all to blog at night right now. :-)

  5. hey girl! glad everything went well...sorry i have no advice in this department. i just know most of my friends say that everyone's pregnancy is different. you are pretty fit, so i can't imagine that losing the baby weight will be that tough for you.

  6. Ditto what Amy said, you are an active person so it shouldn't be hard to get the weight off at all! Mike had a different job when Drew was born and he worked insane hours. I was pretty much doing everything by myself and the weight dropped off w/o me really having to diet or exercise. I'm going to try to get into the habit of taking nightly walks now so I'm in that routine already after the baby gets here.

Contractions, those are fun! lol. I don't think they feel like menstrual cramps at all. What I feel is my stomach getting really tight and a little crampy but like I said it doesn't exactly feel like menstrual cramps. It's kind of hard to explain and maybe they feel differently for each person...I have no idea! :) Sometimes it's strong enough to cause me to be out of breath. So far they haven't really hurt they just catch me off guard.

  7. These comments make me feel much better. Thanks to everyone who commented!!! It just freaks me out to see the maternity clothes not fitting and my butt getting wider! I had plenty ghetto booty prior to conception! Geesh!

So, does one have to keep upping their maternity size in pants???? Is that normal???

  8. Nothing in pregnancy is "normal" b/c EVERYONE is DIFFERENT. I didn't have to up my size in pants but I always bought the ones that had the big panel on them. I'm sure that makes a difference.

And I agree with Allison...contractions don't feel like menstrual cramps at all. I didn't think there was any comparison. But that could be different for you too.

  9. Holly,
You WILL do fine giving birth....to me labor is a combination of tightness and cramping combined....maybe not exactly like menstral cramps, but I had cramping of some sort. It will be interesting to see if this labor is any different?

As far as pants/weight....don't worry, you and Tobin both are active....you will get it off in no time. :-)

Have a great weekend. I told Mel, I sure wish the boys were having their party here. Miss them.

  10. I'm like Amy...I don't have anything to add on contractions or weight gain. My sister swelled up like crazy during the last few months of her pregnancy (it was bad!). It was amazing to see her a week after delivery and see her look normal again. I almost didn't recognize her. lol. You'll lose it!!! With summertime, I'm sure you'll spend lots of time outside. :)
