First illness in awhile

Tanner came down with a cough last Friday evening and it worsened throughout the day on Saturday. I could hear him all night long, coughing and stirring. Come Sunday morning, he sounded raspy and had a low-grade temp. Tobin had to work, but said that I should take Tanner to urgent care. So, I had to wait for them to open, but got in fairly soon after they opened. In the waiting room, Tanner's cough sounded like a long-time smoker...deep and mucousy. Tanner ended up having a 99 degree temp, which was ignored. They listened to his chest and said that he did indeed have some noise in there, but that it was viral and all we could do was keep him hydrated with Pedialyte. On his paperwork, they wrote teething and common cold. He giggled and smiled the entire time we were there and never coughed once! I'm sure they thought I was a lunatic, over-protective, first-time mom.

On Monday, Tanner went to daycare with Amy and we both went to work. Once home that afternoon, Tanner was wheezing with almost every breath. Long story-short, we found ourselves back at urgent care. Only this time, it was a 3 hour visit with x-rays, a breathing treatment, and an antibiotic. Pneumonia was ruled out, but upper respiratory virus was thrown around with possible RSV. He has only had one Synagis shot, so that scared me. We ended up having to buy a $215 nebulizer as they don't rent them anymore. He was to have a breathing treatment every 4 hours for one day and then every 6 hours for the rest of the week. Let me just tell you how tiring that is to set your alarm twice in the night and do that.

We had our follow-up dr. appt today with his new pediatrician. She decided it was not RSV as he would be much worse than he was acting (smiling , jumping around and laughing). She did say that he sounded awful and to go back to the every 4 hours, rather than every 6 hours. UGH! Don't get me wrong, whatever is best for him, but I am a zombie. If you have called, texted, or emailed, and I haven't replied, please know that I do appreciate it very much, but I barely have time to sleep these days, amongst the treatments, meds, laundry, dishes, work,...I actually made a list of what medication to give Tanner, at what time of day, so I didn't forget anything. Oh yea, I am exhausted from the whole 1st trimester thing on top of all that. While pregnant with Tanner at this time, I came home from work and slept for two hours before dinner. That is a big no-can-do now.

Tanner's spirits are great, but he has his moments of inconsolable crying. Sometimes it is throughout the whole 15 minute breathing treatment and sometime sit appears to be for no reason. The top 4 front teeth are all coming in at the same time, so that doesn't help matters. It also appears that his incisors will come in first so he will have a vampire appearance. Nice.

Announcement!

Well, we knew we wanted two....maybe not this soon, but then again, I'm no spring chicken! We honestly decided to leave it up to God and we can only assume this was His Plan. We found out the day after Christmas, two days after I decided to quit breast pumping for Tanner. Odd, huh? I made a doctor appt. the following Monday for the official pregnancy test and then blood work on New Year's Eve. The nurse actually looked at the HCG hormone levels on the test and said, "Oh honey, you're pregnant...loud and proud." We're excited and prayerful about this news! It all seems sorta dejavu, expecially when at the doctor's office! They even tease me about it constantly..."Weren't you just here?" and "Didn't anyone tell you what prevents this?" yea, yea, yea..... :)

I had my first ultrasound today. I am at 7 weeks and 2 days. Due date August 27th. Tobin and I got to see and hear the heartbeat, even though the baby is the size of an almond. It actually took her awhile to find the baby. She said my uterus was tilted...that was never mentioned the last time...hmmmm. Anyway, the doctor didn't mention that and said everything looked great and he'll see me in three weeks. If all is well at that point, then we will proceed with the 4-week visits; however, he plans to send me to a specialist to check the size of my cervix regularly. This is a preventative measure so that I do not go into preterm labor again. Especially since we do not know what caused it the last time for sure. This specialist will do all of the future ultrasounds which will be coded as medically necessary.

So, the babies will be 16 months apart if you were trying to do the math! LOL!!

Way too busy to blog~

I have so much I want to post about, but no time to do it! We had a fabulous time with my sister's family while they were in town from Alabama. So many cute pics as well. All of the Christmas celebrations went well. The boys really seemed to have made a connection with "baby Tanner" as they call him and they were VERY excited to see and touch him! Koen even helped feed him a bottle. Both boys very much enjoyed playing with Tanner's toys, from crawling into his Exersaucers to sticking his binkie in their mouth!! LOL!!

My Christmas break was so busy that I really feel that I need a vacation to recuperate! I am behind on so many things still. I did up date Tanner's baby book developmentally and medically. That felt productive!

After many appeals and much diligence, Tanner finally got approved for the Synagis shots to protect him from RSV. Nothing like the insurance companies waiting to the last minute. A home health nurse showed up on New Year's Eve, the VERY last day of 2008 that would qualify, to administer the medication. Tobin's insurance switched on Jan. 1st, so we were down to the wire. This way the new provider will view it as an existing prescription and continue the meds through April. Thank the Lord as this is a $1500 shot we are talking about! Whew!

Tanner is doing so well! He has had three PAT meetings and seems to be doing everything that a baby his age should be doing except sitting all by himself. Well, maybe for 5 seconds...but, that doesn't count! He has really found his tongue and love to giggle, so much that it impedes my progress as I try to feed him. He has enjoyed sweet potatoes and carrots, and will try squash tomorrow. I have about 4 days left of frozen breast milk supply and then he will move on to formula through one year old.

Tobin and I are doing well. We are busy doing some things around the house and trying to get it child-proofed. We are still trying to find that balance of taking care of Tanner and still feeling like we have a life of our own! Tobin manages better than I do as he has been hunting recently. I haven't been able to scrapbook much at all since Tanner was born. Life is just so hectic! Not having to pump, wash parts, thaw out milk, and make bottles all the time may make a difference. I hear formula is much easier since there isn't a temperature issue.
