1st full week of summer

I had one big goal this week and that was to get Tanner's baby book caught up
and one started for the baby on the way!

I have been on the search for a book that was girly-oriented. So, I looked online, Barnes & Noble, and Borders. I finally settled on the very same book that I had for Tanner. It isn't girly at all, but quite gender-neutral. Here are some reasons why I caved and gave up the search for a different book:

1. I am comfortable and familiar with it.

2. I really like all of the pages with extra info that NO other book included. Plus, a clear pouch in the back for extras.

3. There are only two pages that I will not use. In Tanner's book, I printed off my own page of info and placed it directly on the page with scrapbook stuff.

4. There are TONS of pages for various pictures: ultrasounds, pregnant mommy pics, each month of the 1st year, hospital pics, baby pics with family and friends, holidays, vacations, family tree, 1st birthday, and other "firsts."

5. Plus, it records info from pre-natal through preschool.

I have already filled out as much as I can for baby girl prior to her getting here! Now, I need to get caught up on pictures in Tanner's book. Wallets fit best as I can fit more of them.

Tobin was off for three days this week, so we were able to squeeze in a trip to the zoo. It was sort of bad timing because Tanner had just had some Tylenol due to his pain from the 12 mo. shots he received the day before. This made him fairly lethargic for the 1st hour at the zoo, then he simply crashed. It was a nice day though...about 73 degrees and sunny.

I have wonderful news concerning my 4-hour Glucola test. I PASSED! All of my results were within normal levels, so I don't have to change my diet. Unfortunately, I have to take the test again sometime later on in the pregnancy. But, for now....YAY!

Calling all moms....

I am in need of opinions!!!

Tanner had his 12 mo. well baby appointment today. All went well:
  • 55% on weight
  • 85% on height
  • No MMR until 15 months! Whew!
  • only 3 shots today, but pink Band-Aids (Daddy groaned, lol)
  • Advised NOT to use Johnson & Johnson baby soap/shampoo, but rather Dove for skin sensitivity
  • Hemoglobin down a little, so he was put back on Poly-Vi-Sol with iron, 1cc per day

Our pediatrician advised that Tanner be weaned off bottle ASAP. Transition to the sippy. No binkie in the daytime except for naps and to go to sleep at night. (We're fine with that.) But here's the kicker......NO MILK AT BEDTIME without brushing his teeth. NO milk from a bottle at all. We have always given him a bottle at bedtime and that is what he is used to. Apparently, the sugars and flow from the bottle/nipple can cause tooth decay; I should have thought of that, or asked. However, it will wake him up to brush his teeth, won't it??? So, do we give him his bottle an hour before bed and try to get him to go to sleep with just the binkie? I can't imagine that working, but he may have to cry it out for a tad bit until he realizes that he has to put himself to sleep without the bottle. Is that what most parents do?? We also have been known to give him a bottle overnight when he wakes. No more of that!! I guess I can give him a bottle of plain water for the action he likes and he'll soon put it down since it won't taste the same and hopefully go back to sleep. Please help!!!

Sidenote: I tried to brush his teeth tonight after his bottle, but he was so asleep that all he did was pucker up his mouth, so I couldn't get in. That is obviously NOT the way to do it. I was just so worried about his teeth that I had to try.

Almost the BIG DAY...

Well, one year ago, about this time of night, Tobin and I were spending HIS birthday in Labor and Delivery wondering why my membranes had ruptured and how long could we keep the baby inside. We were told that I could deliver in 7 hours or 7 days or 7 weeks. I was only at 33 weeks gestation. It was a very scary time, but got even scarier when he decided to come the next morning, only to be whisked away from us within minutes! He was off to the neonatal intensive care unit for the next 20 days.

Today, we are madly cleaning house and getting ready for the big ONE YEAR OLD birthday party tomorrow for Tanner Jay!!!

Gestational diabetes?

The nurse called and stated that my Glucola tests were abnormal and I would need to go to the hospital for a four-hour blood workup. From what I gather, I show up at 7:30 a.m. and drink the horrible sugar drink. Then, I have three blood draws, one every hour. I am free to go in between. I was kind of afraid of this because I have craved sweets, candies, and fruits this whole pregnancy. I have little to no will power, so I have already gained 19 lbs and I am at 25 weeks. Not a good track for weight gain...plus, I have no time for exercise and a walk of any length hurts my feet and lower back. UGH...I sure don't want to change my diet to protein and low carbs, but I don't want a ten pounder coming out of me either!

Tobin and Tanner spent some quality time tonight while making our dinner. They grilled a flat iron steak, mushrooms, and red peppers. Tanner could ride around in the backpacker all evening and never whine. Tobin naturally assumed that Tanner would want to go around shirtless since he does....crack me up!

Tobin has the weekend off, so I have planned family pics tomorrow. No clue what to wear, but I'd like some pics of all three of us during this pregnancy. Maybe she can get some cute shots of Tanner and my belly before it gets any bigger

Plans are moving along for Tanner's birthday party. I haven't seen the design for his Baby Einstein b-day cake because the cake lady is knee-deep in graduation cakes right now. I have seen her work, so I trust it, but I sure am curious! I'm also trying to figure out what to put in the treat bags!

Quick update

So much happens in between my posts that I forget half of it. I'll do the best I can to capture it all.

Mother's Day was wonderful. These aren't the best pictures, but they will have to do. Tanner and Tobin got me a turquoise ring, two hanging fuchsia baskets, and a card. We went to church and Tanner stayed with us in the sanctuary. Tobin's parents, Tobin, and I all took turns holding him. He was a little squirmy, but never loud and never once cried. He fell asleep on the way to lunch and proceeded to sleep all the way through a noisy buffet-style lunch. Luckily, we were in Tobin's truck and it has a carry-style car seat. Grammie watched Tanner while Tobin and I both took 2.5 hour naps. Then, it was on to more fun at my parents.

School is winding down and getting crazy all at the same time. I am SOOOO looking forward to not being there. Five more days!!!! I am just tired of this year for a variety of reasons.

I had a doctor's appt today and had to do the Glucola test. The blood draw didn't get to me this time. I'll find out in one week if I failed it, and in three weeks if I did well. I have one more blood-sugar test later on. This Thursday will be 25 weeks, so my OB wants to start seeing me every three weeks to keep a better eye on me this time. I have another high-risk dr. visit next week. All measurements, fluids, and heartbeat sounds are perfect so far.

We are still in the process of working on the house and planning Tanner's one-year b-day party. I get new bathroom floors next week and Tobin has been touch-up painting all over, inside and out. Tobin also plans to work on the hardwood floors before the party too. Hopefully, it will all come together before the house is crowded for the big day!

(Cute picture of Tanner and one of his 1st cousins, Hunter.)
