No news from the doctor's appt

Tobin and I were both on our way there, in separate cars, when I got a call from my Dr's office saying that he had been called out to deliver a baby. This is the 3rd time that this has happened. The rescheduled date is for next Tuesday, but I have a call in to my nurse to inquire further. During today's visit, we were supposed to schedule an ultrasound within two weeks. Now, I am not sure that will be the case or if one appt. or the other will move. I was disappointed at first, but I'm over it now. We'll find out soon enough, I guess. We were supposed to hear the heartbeat again today too.

I made Tobin a strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting. He has been such a wonderful husband during this pregnancy, answering my every whim and request. He cooks dinner almost every night and gets me whatever I need, even if it requires him leaving the house to go get it. I am getting spoiled for sure!

Easy recipe!

Breakfast Blizzard

1 (15 oz ) can of lite fruit cocktail, undrained
1 (8 oz) plain or lowfat vanilla yogurt
1 cup fruit juice -- I use orange-pineapple-banana
1 banana, chopped
6-8 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in the blender or food processor. Process until blended to your preferred consistency. Serve immediately. 4 servings

VERY LOW CAL, FAT-FREE, PLUS DIETARY FIBER
I'm off to the gym and then to a nearby town to visit relatives in the nursing home.
Anyone else experiencing some serious cabin fever? It's depressing me. I can't shake it! Sure glad about the forecasted warmer temps today!

One for me and one for my sis~

I had been meaning to use these exact papers with this particular picture for months. Apparently they got buried under my "to do" stack on my scrapbook table. I ran across them on Monday and decided to get the job done while I had time. Since I had enough to do two layouts, I decided to make one for me and one for you, Mel. Just let me know which one you want, and I will take the other one. I haven't journaled on the journaling card on either one. That way you can say it the way you want, since he's your lil' munchkin. I will have to really think about what I want to say, since a lot of his nicknames are already Photoshopped onto the pic. Hope you like it!

Snow day, or ice day..whichever!

YaY! I sure don't mind getting that call at 5:30 am these days! Not having to find pants that fit me, getting to stay in the warm bed, no ironing, more snuggling, scrapbooking in the afternoon, and of course, snacking throughout the day.

I got to scrapbook some yesterday since Tobin had to work. Then, he had band practice and he stayed a little later. Some guy brought a bigger amp, so they got to play really loud and he sure loves to beat the drums. Here are my results from my downtime:
The page above seems piece-meal, and isn't at all how I envisioned it, but I got tired of messing around with it. Anyone else ever have that feeling when scrapbooking? The "just get it done" page? The page includes pictures of me and good friends, Hollie and Tara, from high school and college. Can you see the signs of the 80s? I had a file on optical illusions and thought about the Y-O-U inside of the puffy M-E. I put paper up on the monitor and traced it, then made my template! I liked how the page turned out. Well, off to enjoy the rest of my second day off this week! I have a guest speaker coming to school Wed-Thursday, so I'm diggin' this week already!

3 day weekend~

It is so nice knowing that I get another day to relax! Tobin is watching football, but the better game is on this evening. He has had ham and beans going in the crock pot since 7am and is getting ready to make cornbread cakes on the griddle! He watches over it like a mother hen; it is soooo funny!
I finished the scrapbook page that I started at SG yesterday morning. I enjoyed making this page because of the memories involved in the pictures. I didn't get it finished while the sun was still shining, so the colors look a little funky in the pic. Thanks for the design, Allison!

I think I'll continue to scrapbook this evening while I watch Brett Favre dominate...To prevent any more "junk in the trunk" than absolutely necessary, I've switched my evening treat of ice cream to yogurt and frozen fruit. Gotta do what ya gotta do!

Yay! It's Friday!

Tobin fixed us dinner and then we had our normal date of going to Borders. I was craving a hot cappuccino-type drink, so I got the OK from my nurse. I took my time deciding on what I wanted to drink, asked for caffeine-free, and settled into a comfy chair to peruse the book I had picked up. Ugh, BAD IDEA! I could totally feel my heart racing and couldn't even concentrate on what I was reading, even though I was seated in a comfy chair with my legs propped up! It was a yummy cinnamon latte, so dang it! Surely she must have forgotten about the caffeine-free...

This is the book I decided on tonight. I have never actually bought a book there. I planned on reading just a few sections of different chapters, but it had so much good info! It has many awesome recipes that I can use after pregnancy, meal plans for each trimester, nutritional info, so much good stuff!! The best part is...Tobin decided to buy it for me! I needed some motivation because I know how to eat healthy, but haven't seemed to do it consistently throughout this pregnancy.

We received some disappointing news today. We had been looking forward to learning the sex of the baby on January 29th. I called the doctor today to see how many people could attend the ultrasound, and found out that they hadn't scheduled an ultrasound at all. The doctor decided that it would be a little too early and would rather schedule one closer to Valentine's Day. I knew week 17 was early, but had been told that it was possible. Miscommunication, I guess.

I plan to go to a scrapbooking sketch class tomorrow morning and then Tobin and I are going to clean house and do laundry together tomorrow. Yippee! lol However, it is so much more tolerable when done together as a team effort. Hope everyone has a wonderful and warm weekend!

WHOA...I scrapbooked....

Shocker, I know. I couldn't remember the last time I scrapbooked, nor the last time I even wanted to. Maybe the spark for it will return....it is possible that I got a little burned out. These are partial scraplifts from SG, but at least they're progress. I need to figure out what pics to put on them though.....sorry the pics turned out less than stellar....I think the layout below is beggin' for some stitching....just doesn't seem finished, but I was...

Just one year ago this weekend....

It's hard to go back and think about the emotions I was feeling. Then again, I remember it well enough to know that it was a miserably cold time, with so much destruction, that I don't want to experience it ever again! Reflecting on that experience, and being pregnant now, I simply cannot imagine what we would have done with an infant. Gotten a hotel room? Who knows. That kind of thing didn't enter my head then, but I imagine God will change a lot of my perceptions and
outlooks now.
It was 39 degrees in our home. I remember having on more layers than I thought possible. We even slept in our subzero sleeping bags, but under the normal bedding. All four pets slept on the bed surrounding us too. The sounds of the night were like a war zone and you just kept praying that it didn't damage the house. The house two doors down caught fire in the middle of the night due to the weather head issue. Definitely a scary time and one that I am thankful hasn't reoccured!

Ahhhh..the weekend....

This week seemed to creep along. I have a student teacher for only a month. I have taken advantage of the situation and pretty much given him the reigns. I wander around the building and visit with people. I could get used to this!

Tobin and I took a group of 8th graders to the Nature Center last night. They had a free program called Owl Prowl. We learned about 3 kinds of owls from the Dickerson Park Zoo docents and they actually had live specimens of each species to view. Then, we hit the cold and dark trails to try to spot the owls. The naturalists had tape recordings of each owl call to try to lure them in. It was pretty fun overall, but I didn't enjoy the fact that some kids kept going off on their own and wandering around in the dark. I should have been more clear about staying together, but I realize that would have been BORING to them.

THE BUMP:
The pregnancy is moving along well. Tobin is getting more and more excited and it is cute to hear his comments and questions. I am a little over 14 weeks and the baby is about the size of my fist. It is practicing smiling this week and should be sucking its thumb by next week. There are 25 quarts of blood already flowing through its heart, it's getting ready to grow lanugo hair all over, and the length is 4 inches from crown to rump. My morning sickness, or "all day long sickness" is still lurking around. That should be getting better, but has progressively gotten worse. I AM getting a little more energy this trimester though. By the way, we get to find out the sex at the end of the month!!!!! The doctor said I may be gaining too much weight, too fast, but I personally think his scale is off! haha I DID just go through the holidays! Although....I am about 75% into maternity clothes. I can only wear a few of my dress pants now. Elastic bands are a part of my wardrobe now. Hmmmpfff.

Our New Year's Eve Trip 2008

We had a wonderful time on our quick road trip to Arkansas! We journeyed with our friends, the Fespermans, and stayed in some really cool deluxe cabins. The evening was short since we got down there around 8pm, but we stayed up to ring in the New Year. Jason and Jennifer cooked up what looked like a wonderful surf 'n' turf meal of steak and shrimp, baked potatoes, and salad. I was feeling too nauseous to eat, unfortunately, but it looked delicious! I enjoyed an entire bottle of sparkling cranberry-apple juice! haha The cabins were really awesome and slept 6 people. Tobin fixed a huge breakfast for everyone the next morning with his new griddle! On New Year's Day, we hiked a ~4 mile trail to Hawk's Bill Crag, otherwise known as Whitaker Point. It was 26 degrees and windy. We all bundled up and enjoyed it anyway. However, I don't recommend the Arctic blast that occurs when one must pee in the outdoors during these conditions. I had to stop every so often to catch my breath and get my heart rate in check, but no one seemed to mind! The views were fantastic, the company was great, and the trip was a much needed break from the recent fast-paced holiday.
