Hunter meets his new baby cousin

Tanner has 3 cousins and two on the way, but he finally got to meet one of them yesterday. It was pretty cute because Hunter had several things on his agenda while he was at our house. He wanted to meet and hold Tanner, play with Babs and Bailey, and play XBox with Uncle Tobin. We decided to let him feed Tanner and he enjoyed every minute of it! However, once finished, he immediately wanted to go outside to play with the dogs. The funny thing was, time with the dogs was fairly short-lived and he was back inside asking to hold Tanner again!! We let him, and then he played XBox with Uncle Tobin. Tobin beat him, so he requested to hold Tanner again! It was pretty dang cute to see an 'almost-6-year-old' say about Tanner, "He's precious and I like him." haha

Amanda is coming over to watch Tanner while I go to my Dr. appt. I sure hope they can give me some advice as to why I continue to have shooting pains and throbbing sensations after I use the breast pump or try to feed Tanner. Tanner and I also have an appt this afternoon. We are going to try another breastfeeding class to see if we can get him any closer to preferring the breast rather than the bottle. The idea of breastfeeding is getting difficult. He isn't ready to take to it and it kind of frustrates me. I don't like the feeling of rejection, but I know the milk comes out of the bottle soooo much easier. I have to say, the only reason I keep doing this is because I know how important that bond is and how special it will be to feel the closeness. Not to mention the convenience of not having to wash so many dang bottle, nipples, collars, pump parts....He is still getting the immunity and antibodies, but it is wearing on me.

  4. Mom asked the same thing! HAHA
Tricia and Amanda! Tricia's baby will be a first cousin and Jimmy and Amanda's will be a second cousin to Tanner.

  5. If it makes you feel any better, I am having the opposite problem. I can't get Preston to take a bottle. I need to go back to piano teaching next month and I'll need to have someone watch him while I'm teaching and I can't unless I can get him to take a bottle. He gets super mad when we try to give him one and it just frustrates both Will and I because then we have to deal with a cranky baby for a long time afterwards. Not to mention it's a waste of my milk. Ugh. But it will be nice when I can get a break from being the only thing that can provide him with nutrience for once. Sometimes I feel like all I do is breastfeed all day long.

So don't feel bad. I know it is great to feed from the nipple and you'll get there - but there is always greener grass on the other side too. :)

  6. P.S. Did you ever figure out what your shooting pains were? I have that too, and everyone on WTE is telling me that is when your milk is ready, or when you lactate.

From what my LC says, if the pain begins in the upper breast and shoots downward, then it is your "milk letdown." If it starts at the nipple and shoots upward, then it is most likely pain from the yeast infection. I have the latter.

WOW, so interesting that you have the opposite scenario. That does make me feel better, or at least makes me realize that I am not the only one struggling to be a good mom and going through some frustrating times. I hadn't thought of the opposite situation either; I cannot imagine how I would return to work either!!! Thanks for sharing!
