Developmental Bath

There is a BIG difference between Tanner taking bath with a towel wrapped around him and taking a bath stark naked. I guess it is a preemie thing, but as you can see, he is loving his little soak in the suds! He was totally copacetic, like he was in his own lil' hot tub just chillin' out and kickin' back! SO CUTE!
We met with the LC again today and I can tell that this is going to be a process. He did so well on Tuesday, but wouldn't latch very long on for a feeding today. He hadn't slept well all day and totally crashed as I drove to our appt. He didn't even wake up with closing car doors and me getting him out of his carbed and carrying him into the Support Center. So, as you can imagine, he was in no mood to learn something new once he was awakened. Plus, his thrush came back recently, and that hurts his mouth, especially when he has to suck harder on the breast than he would a bottle. I can see why he wants the easy way to a full belly. His LC is 100% confident that he will catch on soon, but definitely by his "term" date. He still isn't supposed to be here for another 14 days or so. She said that the light just seems to come on for lots of things when a preemie reaches their term date. I sure hope so because I want him to have the best experience and nourishment as possible.

  2. All babies like to be covered up when they are taking a bath in those first few weeks. They recommended that in my baby classes. Trai and I just forgot. I look back on those first few moments of having Em home and laugh now. We were so clueless. I'm glad you are more in the know!

  3. I'm so glad that my baby isn't the only one. The first bath we ever gave Preston he was stark naked and cried through the whole thing. Then my husband had the brilliant idea to wrap him in a towel and then put him in the water. So I've done this for the past 2 baths that he's had and it works WONDERS!! He just loves it. It is nice and warm and it surrounds his skin. He even fell asleep in the tub yesterday. I think I'm going to use this technique to calm him down in the evenings when he gets fussy.
