Tanner-Man was a very good sport about his first doctor visit. Unfortunately, he threw one fit and that is when I took the picture. He DID NOT like to be unclothed in the doctor's office. I guess it was the temperature difference because his doctor was very gentle with him. I had never met his doctor, but I like him so far. He was very willing to answer all of my questions and I even had a written list of things I wanted to go over. He commented that he was glad that I had written them all down. That was a good sign because I tend to annoy doctors with my never-ending questions. It is part of my educational/science background, as well as part of my general personality. Of course, I thought of many more after we left, but I called the office and they got right back with me and answered every concern! My cousin's wife, Amanda, went with me (since Tobin had to go back to work) and she was a HUGE help! So, thank you Amanda for being there for me and Tanner yesterday!
Tanner has to have two follow up appts: one with a cardiologist to make sure the little murmur is gone or at least that it hasn't grown anymore, and one to have him re-evaluated with a car seat test. Both in mid-late July. His new stats are as follows:
19 inches long
6 lbs and 4 oz
belly button completely healed
use saline drops for congestion
the thrush is back-use Nystatin again
So, I have to write all of this down to keep it straight....feed him 8 times per day, pump 8 times per day (not always near the same time), give him the Nystatin 4 times per day orally and on his bum, vitamins once/day, and add EnfaCare to every bottle for extra calories. They want him at 22 calories per oz of breastmilk. Normal breastmilk only has 18-20 cal/oz.
We are settling in to somewhat of a routine, I guess you could call it. It is more of a "get used to Tanner's schedule that can change at any time" type deal. At first, I set my double alarm for every three hours, which is how often he fed in the NICU. However, we soon found that he might be asleep at that time, or just not hungry yet. So, do you re-set the alarm, and if so, for when? He has also graduated from a slow nipple on the bottle to a medium one. He was compressing the slow-speed nipple flat, wearing himself out, and not getting much milk on top of that.
We have had several visitors and even had dinner brought to us last night. Thank you Mary D. and family! That helped immensely since we have spent a small fortune eating out while driving back and forth the to hospital for 3 weeks. Our BBQ grill died and I don't seem to have time to fix much more than a sandwich here and there.
Overall, we are adjusting to having our little man here at home. I just love to hold him and watch him sleep. He makes the cutest little faces and smells so wonderful! I was scared of the pain involved in bringing him into this world, but everyone was right. It was a pain easily forgotten and I can't imagine life without him!
So glad all is going well with you guys! Sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy right now. I don't know how you find time to blog, but I am glad you do:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! I should probably be napping, but I get my email checked and blog while I am pumping. Probably too much information right there, but it is a hell of a way to multitask! LOL!!
ReplyDeleteAH, there you are. I'm glad things are going well. Emmarie is currently on Nystatin too! Long story short...I finally took her to the doctor...yep...sinus infection. The meds gave her a yeast infection, wickedly bad yeast infection, so now we are on different antibiotics and yeast yummies too!
ReplyDeleteI hope things keep going well!
Good post! Like how you listed what the Dr. said. I so badly wish that I could just drive over all the time and sniff Tanner. There's just something about brand new baby smell....
ReplyDeleteI purchased a baby book at Hallmark yesterday that had pages to fill in that included items about the baby's parents, how the baby showers went, what current events were taking place in the world etc. There are even pages that have envelopes for the first tooth lost and first lock of hair.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I like scrapbooks, this baby book is nice because it can easily be filled out.
There are also spots for the hand prints and footprints. That's why I wanted to get the book before the baby's birth so they could include these items in the baby book right from the bat.
Hey I'm so happy for you, it sounds like he's doing great. He gained alot of wieght to. My sister thought the same way about bringing a baby in the world and now she would seriously die without my niece!lol sounds like your busy, thats a huge change in life! But a good one!!! Good Luck

I'm so glad that everything at the Dr. appt. was good. I read my e-mail and responded to it before I read this blog. It is funny that I mentioned smelling Colby is something I will always remember.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how you have already realized that it will be his schedule...not yours.

Looks like you are transitioning well! What pediatrician are you using?
ReplyDeleteKodi, you prompted my posting! lol!! I didn't realize it had been several days. The yeast infection looks like white spots on the inside of his cheeks and tongue..some redness around the crease of his legs and genital area and his lil' BH. Hope Em is getting better.
ReplyDeleteMel and Linda, I can't get enough of Tanner's smell. Sounds weird, but you know what I mean!
Abby, your sister and I should talk!
Emily, I feel left out of your pregnancy! I would love to see details on your blog! Tanner is on St. John's network under Tobin, so I went with Fusselman. I can give you names of Cox docs that I would have gone with, had our insurance not gone up 43%, if you would like.
Tanya, you encouraged me to go get a baby book and I am so glad I did. I found one at Barnes and Noble that is somewhere in between everything you said AND a scrapbook! Perfect for me since I am a BIG scrapbooker at heart. Thanks for indirectly making me get on the ball!
Sounds like everything is going good Mrs. Elliott! I hope he continues to grow. I wish our class could meet him. I know we would all love him. lol

I am so glad that his doctors app. went well. And hopefully he'll get used to the fact of not wearing clothes during the app. I am glad that he has gained soooo much weight. Hope everything keeps on gettting better, and good luck!!!
