News on Tanner

I spoke with Holly this morning and she asked me to give a few more details about little Tanner. He is definitely still needing prayers. At this point, they've determined that he has Respiratory Distress Syndrome. He's on a ventilator and CPAP machine off and on because he is having to fight so hard for oxygen. Holly explained it like this...When you blow up a balloon, that first blow of air into the balloon is the hardest b/c it doesn't have any air in it yet. Well, that first blow is what Tanner is experiencing every time he breathes. The doctors have said that he will take a turn for the worse before he begins to get better. They are all very optimistic though. Tanner has someone assigned specifically to him in the NICU, so he's getting the best quality care.

Holly's still not been able to hold Tanner at all. She feels so badly for not being able to comfort him. They've got him on Phenobarbital right now to act as a sedative. Tanner is so bothered by all the tubes and machines that he is hooked up to that he is getting really mad, which is making him fight harder for oxygen. Holly said his lungs don't even have the capacity to make a cry right now. He just turns red faced and opens his mouth really wide. It's like a silent scream. Holly tried to comfort him last night by rubbing his arm, but was informed by the nurses that she was irritating Tanner and to not do that. Tanner isn't used to that sensation. Holly is only allowed to touch him and press down on him since that is the sensation he would be getting in the womb.

So, it's going to be a rough road ahead. Holly and Tobin will leave the hospital tonight. I can't even imagine how hard it will be to leave without their baby. Please continue to pray for all of them. Holly is unsure of when Tanner will get to come home. At first she was told he would stay until his due date. Someone else told her it will all depend on how he is doing. Now that Holly is coming home, I'm sure she'll be the one to pick up with the updates.

Thanks again for all of your prayers and concerns. I know Holly and Tobin are very appreciative.
