I completed my "about me" page for the Consider Yourself Challenged contest. I'm lovin' the felt on my pages, and this time I found some glitter felt that was fun. I also enjoyed the different fonts in both the title and the bulleted (jewels) list of blessings. I used flocked letters in the title for the first time also (blessed). Contests make me nervous for some reason, but it was good to do the page anyway. It is a good mile marker in my life and might be interesting to whomever inherits my books someday. I've never really done a page like it. I need to put the date on there somehow. I'd also like to do a "he says/she says" type page...something that shows the differences and similarities between Tobin and I.

My Principal's wife called me last night and told me about an exhibit in Branson. It sounded wonderful, so I called my aunt to see if she'd like to check it out. It is called BODIES The Exhibit and it is sooo fascinating. We waited in line for 45-60 mintues to get in. They had over 10 million dollars worth of human body preservation in so many neat formats. The atmosphere is complete respect, except for some kids that were way too young to appreciate what they were seeing. There were no cameras, cell phones, food, or drink. The exhibits had been people who donated their body to science. They were dissected or cross-sectioned in ways that allowed you to see internal organs, cancers, or disease. They had almost every body system displayed in miraculous ways. It was amazing to see the muscular system displayed in a person playing volleyball or swinging a tennis racket. I wish my students, former and future, could see the differences in a lung of a smoker and nonsmoker. The reproductive exhibits were fabulous. The one-week old embryo was the size of a grain of rice, yet at 4 weeks, you could see tiny arms and legs. I can't imagine a person seeing what I saw today....the inner workings and miracle of the human anatomy... and NOT know that there is a God. Today was the last free day for locals. It will be $22.50 per person until January.

We also went shopping at two different outlet malls in Branson. I found some good deals at Bass, GAP, and Skechers! Apparently Steve's Shoes went out of business and all their shoes are being sold for $29.99 or $39.99. I got a pair of Josef Seibel's for $39!!! AWESOME!
The page looks really great! A lot of depth to it, and quite fancy! And that exhibit sounds soooo fascinating. Glad you got in free. Wish there was a way to share it with students, like you said...
ReplyDeletei don't think i could handle that exhibit. couldn't do the babies part now that i've had one. i just don't handle science well. glad there are people like you that are fascinated by it! :)
ReplyDeleteyour page is great! a lot of intricate work with the beading and all. did you paint your brads with fingernail polish? they look really shiny. don't forget to post a link on the challenge site. i noticed april was on there, but didn't see you. april's page cracks me up...maybe b/c i, too, was a child of the 80's.
Thanks guys! Mel~ You would have loved it. Kodi~ My aunt didn't like some parts and it made her queasy, but the baby part was very interesting. They died in utero for other reasons. As for the page, those are stick-on jewels that were in a strip. I just cut them apart. I do need to link to the CYC page. Thanks again!
ReplyDeletehey girl, don't give out secrets like that. you supposed to make us think you slaved away on that page.
ReplyDeleteLOL I actually did spend a lot of time and different techniques, fabrics, ribbons, stitching, rubons, foam and flocked letters....those stinkin' jewels were a bit of a pain because once you cut them from the strip, you had to trim off the extra glue on each one before attaching it! i didn't even get to use a coupon on them, dang it!
ReplyDeleteI love your page! It made me smile as I was reading it. I may have to go see that Bodies exhibit. Price sounds steep, but I do enjoy seeing stuff like that--things you don't see in everyday life.
ReplyDeletei need some of those jewels. stuff like that just looks like it was made for little girl pages.
ReplyDeleteI love the page. It's so great! You did a super job!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteApril~ The price is high, but if you like science, human anatomy, and learning how the body works, then you'll LOVE it!
Your page looks great. One of these days I will have to get you and Kodi to help me get started. The exhibit sounds really neat, but I am sure you probably appreciated it more than a lot of people would.
ReplyDeleteYEA! Linda! Do you mean get started bloggin' or get started scrapbookin'?? :) Thanks for commenting on my blog about my page! Good to hear from you!
